Are you always struggling to get under wordcount limits? Frustrated with your sentence structures? Feel like you could polish your paragraphs? Had feedback about prose being “baggy” (ugh!) or “clunky” (gasp!)? Would you like to learn some insights on how to fix this from an award winning author?
This is the session for you!
Over two hours I’ll give you tools for your writer’s kit that make sentences sing.

I’ve also edited two anthologies and been a slush reader for the British Fantasy Society’s Horizons magazine, so I’ve got some relevant experience that I can pass on to you!
In this session, we’ll be talking about an important self-editing toolkit to help you tighten up and polish your prose on a sentence to sentence level. We’ll be looking beyond the usual platitudes of self-help books (“just delete all your adverbs!”, “show don’t tell!” etc) to what might work for the piece you are writing. Instead of prescriptive, I’ll be giving you adaptive tools to use as you please. These techniques can be used on short stories, or long!
With your newfound knowledge, you can hope to get your work in front of magazine head editors and prevent slush pile premature drop-out! I can’t make your stories get selected, but can help you get more consistent attention and praise.
Writing a novel? These techniques are great to help your prose get punchy and pacy. Using the tools I give you, your beta readers will inhale your words and proofreaders will say, “I wish all my clients could write like this!”
