Desktop Publishing: Formatting a Paperback – Weds 24 September

Learning Desktop Publishing with Affinity Publisher 2

If you’ve always wanted to setup your novels or short story collections for print, but didn’t know where to start, this session is for you!

I’ll show you how to lay out your print files for your paperback book which can be uploaded to publishing platforms like Amazon’s KDP or Ingram Spark, with practical demonstrations.

Save time and hassle by getting the tips on how to do it all from setup to export.

What is Affinity Publisher?

Affinity Publisher is a DTP (Desktop Publisher) which allows you to typeset your files for paper printing (and PDFs etc). It’s a fixed price product. Unlike expensive subscription products, Affinity Publisher is a one off payment and you own it and can install on multiple devices.

We’ll be using Affinity Publisher version 2, but things we’re learning will apply to the previous version. (Methods and terms will also apply to other software packages, but your mileage may vary.)

You can try Affinity and its sister products for free. (No, I’m not sponsored by them!)

Find out more here: https://affinity.serif.com/en-us/publisher/

Things you should bring: if you have already got a licence or a free trial for Affinity Publisher, you can have that open on your computer so you can try out the techniques as we go through. If not, you can just watch. Grab your favourite paperback, too, and we’ll take a look at how book typesetting works.

This session is ideal for:

  • Self-published / indy authors who want to keep control over how your books look on the inside.
  • People who want to learn more about desktop publishing for themselves.
  • People looking for a practical demonstration of an alternative to Adobe products for typesetting.

This session is not for:

  • People looking for how to do eBook creation – that’ll be a separate session!

Note: This is the first time I’m running this workshop so we may overrun a little. Please leave yourself plenty of time to get the best out of this.
