A lot of writer’s advice mentions “outlining” as some sort of miraculous way to create robust story structures and solve plotting problems. What they don’t mention is how hard a person with ADHD can bounce off it.
Outlining can seem boring as heck. That’s where I come in. I will show you how I make outlining interesting, deliciously creative, and even fun!
We will outline a story, live, in a visual and colour–coded way, with elements suggested by you! (Participation is 100% optional, and you can simply watch if you’d prefer.) We’ll find out how we can dig out deeper elements of character and theme that will take your story up to where it deserves to be.
With this workshop, we’ll be digging into how we can make outlining work for ADHD brains to unleash your pent-up potential. Along the way, we’ll discuss strategies for coping when the world seems to be designed to mess us up, and share loads of resources to help us along our journey.
This is a rerun of the online workshop I gave at this year’s Worldcon. Positive feedback indicates this workshop really did help at least some of the participants figure some things out that had been bugging them, and hopefully it can do the same for you. There are no two people with the same needs, which is why I’ll be offering a wide variety of tips and tools. And you will get a copy of the slide deck in PDF format to download (from Google Drive) and go back over whenever you need.
Discussion may overrun, so if you have time to stick around at the end, we can have an informal natter after the session.
